Head – Contract Manufacturing

Job Purpose

  • The Executive will be responsible for strategy and execution of the Contract manufacturing business. He will be accountable for establishing and growing the business from the ground up by engaging with innovator agrochemical companies, securing contracts, and ensuring seamless project execution.

Key Responsibilities:

1)  Build the Long-Range Growth Plan (LRGP) for Contract Manufacturing business

2)  Customer Connect

  • Lead customers connect initiatives with Innovator Agrochemical Companies.
  • Familiarize the customers about value proposition being offered by the company.
  • Generate Contract Manufacturing leads and convert the lead into a Contract.

3) Pre Contract Customer Engagement

  • Engaging with the target customers starting from market mapping, competition scanning, identification of opportunities and validation of the nature of engagement.
  • Validating and vetting the NDA in collaboration with the legal team and helping in finalizing the NDA.
  • Understanding the customer requirements, planning out and executing the sample submission in collaboration with the functions, aligning of specifications and methods of analysis, pilot trials till qualification of the product by the customer.

4) Internal Approval of Contract Proposal

  • Obtaining internal approvals comprising of financial projections (Investments, Profitability, ROCE), broad proposed terms of engagement with the customer, risk and mitigation.

5) Contracting

  • Leading the process of contract finalization with the customer, including terms and conditions, pricing mechanism, information sharing protocols, agreement on quality parameters, quantity lifting assurances (take or pay)..
  • The activity of contracting will be done with inputs from functions like legal, finance and accounts, operations, projects and R & D for domain specific matters.

6) Build a robust Contract Manufacturing process and culture in the organization

  • Identify gaps and drive business excellence programs / process improvement initiatives to achieve sustainable business growth.
  • Partner with the internal key stakeholders across manufacturing, R&D, marketing, supply chain and projects to drive seamless execution.

7) Contract Execution

  • Ensuring execution of contract as per the agreed terms and conditions,
  • In collaboration with the functions ensuring that the targeted outcomes w.r.t quality, timeline and production parameters (RM and utility consumption norms are met)
  • Engaging with the customer to ensure lifting, take or pay and pricing pass through as per the contract agreement
  • Ensuring that the financial outcomes from the contract (Profitability, ROCE, payback) are met
  • Ensuring that the protocols wrt documentation, SOPs, Record keeping etc. are followed by the respective functions.
  • Keeping updated on improvements and cost reductions in the plant and taking appropriate decisions on price adjustments on the same in consultation with the President & COO

8) Internal Systems & Standards

  • Facilitate improvement of internal systems and standards for Contract Manufacturing
  • Study the plans prepared by the respective functions for improvement in systems and standards – safety, sustainability, manufacturing SOP, R & D protocols, Documentation, systems to protect confidentiality of information, technology upgradations etc. and providing inputs to the functions on the same.
  • Keep himself / herself updated on the progress on above w.r.t. plan and giving suggestions for expediting prioritizing in view of customer engagement, customer acquisition, and contract acquisition goals.
  • Communicating appropriately to the customers the developments on above aspects – improvement in safety and sustainability, new certifications, third party (TFS etc.) audit

Qualifications & Experience

  • B.Sc. in Chemistry or B.E./B. Tech in Chemical Engineering with an MBA/PGDM degree is preferred.
  • 12-15 years of professional experience
  • Proven track record in developing contract manufacturing business opportunities, strong expertise in chemical processing, and the capability to consistently meet rigorous quality and regulatory standards is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in business development and strong connect with Innovator Agrochemical Companies for contract manufacturing
  • Geographic exposure to Europe and the US; candidates with experience in the Japanese market will also be considered
  • Strong domain expertise in Contracting, including comprehensive knowledge of the contracting process and its key components
  • Solid understanding of Chemistry principles, chemical value chains, cost drivers within key chemical value chains and emerging trends in the agrochemicals and specialty chemicals sectors
  • Proficiency in Business Finance including financial feasibility analysis and costing
  • Familiarity with Safety, Sustainability, and Manufacturing Standards
